Classes
Theatre Arts IAn introductory class to the performing arts world, this is NOT our mainstage production class, but provides an overview of theatre and dance. There are no prerequisites for this class; however, it can be taken in conjunction with Advanced Theatre to develop and strengthen skills being applied in that class. Even if you're not sure about performing, this is a great place to try something new and fun! Students who take two years of Theatre Arts I can enter the theatre program at SBHS in Intermediate Theatre and skip the Beginning/Introductory classes!

Advanced TheatreOur mainstage productions that are performed for the public, this 7th period class is hands-on application for cast and crew. This is the spot for students who want to act, dance, sing, stage manage, operate lights, control sound, or work backstage! This class is semester-only, which gives students the opportunity to be a part of TWO mainstage shows every year. Auditions and crew calls are conducted at the beginning of each semester. Theatre Arts I is not required for this class, but is highly recommended, as it provides foundational skills that an advanced performer is assumed to have.

This class is for those who want to work behind the lens as well as in front of it. Students design, script, storyboard, film, act in, and edit their own films before uploading them to our YouTube channel! Along the way we study the history of cinema and watch various films to discuss how they are classics; from the earliest silent films down through the present. If you like making new friends and working with other people to make cool stuff, this is the class for you!

This class is primarily a design class for students who want to be creative, but are looking to be involved behind the scenes. As part of a CTE pathway (Career in Technical Education: Arts, Media, and Entertainment,) students get an overview of the theatrical world as they explore set design, lighting design, costuming, propmaking, sound design, and makeup. Through the course we analyze how these elements were introduced and change over history, and participate in hands-on projects to support our mainstage Advanced Theatre performances! Students in this class are also given preference for positions if they choose to work crew in 7th period. This class is also an excellent foundational step for students considering a career in technical theatre; this pathway continues through high school and beyond.
