Fall 2021: "The Rules of Comedy"
Almost exactly two years since we had had a live performance on the stage of the Marjorie Luke Theatre, and it seemed only fitting to bring back a crowd-pleaser like "The Rules of Comedy!" Pandemic precautions were very much in effect, as the performers were masked onstage (except where the script called for them to be unmasked,) the entire audience was masked, and proof of vaccination or negative Covid test was required for entry. While things were still not back to normal in many ways, it was s significant leap forward from like on Zoom, and that far outweighed some of the other inconveniences. Overall, the show was well-received, as audience and performers alike shared in the joys of live performance and the opportunity to come together and laugh as a community. |
Spring 2022: "Shrek, Jr. the Musical"
Though pandemic conditions were still in effect (all audience members had to remain masked while indoors,) this show catapulted back even closer to what live musical theatre could and should be. With timeless themes about the importance of being yourself, not judging a book by its cover, and the insistence that we all have our own stories to tell, the show was a smash success. Despite having so many performers who had never sung or danced in a production before, the response was overwhelmingly positive, and Shrek became the highest-selling show of Mr. Lashua's career to date! Though this school year had been a long, difficult transition away from distanced learning, Shrek was a show that emphatically insisted things were going to be all right. |
