This class is a Career in Technical Education (CTE) course for students who want to be creative without performing onstage. Over the course of the year, we trace the development of theatre around the world throughout history, with an emphasis on the technical developments that occur. Students also develop an overview of set design, lighting design, costuming, propmaking, sound design, makeup, and other backstage elements that are common components of a theatrical production. These students also receive priority for working backstage in our 7th period production class as stage managers, assistant stage managers, light technicians, sound technicians, and run crew. If student interest continues, they may enroll in a CTE Arts, Media, and Entertainment pathway in high school to make career training and connections even before graduation!
