Where Students Take the Stage! This class certainly has the emphasis on "performing" in "performing arts." It is a semester-long class that culminates in a mainstage production (usually a November play in the fall and March/April in for a spring musical.) Crew calls go out the first week of each semester for student stage managers, assistant stage managers, light and sound technicians, and stagehands (opening/closing the curtains, moving sets and scenery, organizing actors backstage.) Auditions for performers are typically the second week of the semester. This class is a 7th period class that also has rehearsals after school and occasionally on weekends, so be prepared for a time commitment. After each show is completed, the class returns to the normal 7th period schedule and supplements skills in staging, scriptwriting, body, voice, and improvisation.
There are no prerequisites for this class, though experienced crew and Stagecraft students tend to get their choice of role over newcomers for technical positions. Actors/performers are strongly encouraged to take Theatre Arts I to develop and enrich their skills, but it is not required for participation in Advanced Theatre.
